Ocean City's BEST Kept Secret? Plim Plaza Hotel Awaits!
Ocean City's BEST Kept Secret? Plim Plaza Hotel Awaits! – My Take (Prepare for Some Honesty!)
Okay, so they call it Ocean City's "Best Kept Secret"…and frankly, for years, I scoffed. Ocean City? Tourist trap! Beach crowds! Forget it. But then…well, life happened, I needed a getaway, and the Plim Plaza Hotel popped up. And you know what? I was wrong. Completely, utterly, unexpectedly wrong. This place…this is a find. Let's get messy with it, shall we?
Let's Tackle This Messy Beast: The Good, The Slightly-Off, and the "OMG I NEEDED THAT!"
Accessibility & Safety: Not Always Perfect, But They Try (and I Appreciate That)
Okay, the official stuff first. Accessibility: They do have Facilities for disabled guests, and a Elevator. This is HUGE. It's not perfectly seamless (I saw some tight corners, and my friend using a cane had to navigate a slightly tricky threshold), but the effort is there, and that matters. CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property made me feel pretty secure, especially wandering back late from the…well, you'll read about it later. Safety/security feature are present everywhere.
Now for the slightly-off: While they claim Anti-viral cleaning products and Professional-grade sanitizing services, let's be real, how do you know? You just trust…and hope those hand sanitizer stations are refilled. And speaking of those, they have Hand sanitizer everywhere! Rooms sanitized between stays, Daily disinfection in common areas, and Staff trained in safety protocol are all listed. This is all excellent to know. So, yeah, they seem to be doing their best in the COVID era. The fact they offer Room sanitization opt-out available is nice too, if you're one of those germophobes who wants to do it yourself!
The Doctor/nurse on call is a bonus for any potential medical needs. First aid kit and Fire extinguisher were present, which is always reassuring.
Internet, Internet, Internet…Because We're All Addicted
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! is a must in this day and age, and the connection was pretty decent. I could stream Netflix (important!), and catch up on work (less important, but crucial for pretending I’m being productive). They have Internet [LAN] too, if you're a dinosaur who still uses cables (kidding…mostly). Wi-Fi in public areas was also reliable. Internet services overall were good. I did get a little frustrated when the Wi-Fi blinked out in the middle of a very important online shopping spree (essential!), but it was quickly sorted.
The Spa & Relaxation Zone: My Happy Place (AND My Complaint)
Okay, THIS is where the Plim Plaza really shines. I mean, Pool with view? Yes, please! The Swimming pool [outdoor] was the social heart of the place. Sun, drinks, people – all good. They have a Sauna, a Spa, a Steamroom plus, a Spa/sauna, which were all pretty fantastic. The Gym/fitness center (I'm a recovering couch potato, so I peeked) looked well-equipped, though I never actually used any of the equipment.
Now for my complaint: they advertise Massage, and while they technically have a spa, booking a massage was…complicated. Let’s just say calling ahead is crucial. The lack of readily available massages was a bit of a downer, after a long day on the beach, I just wanted to melt. I'm a big fan of a Body scrub and Body wrap to help relax!
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: From Pancakes to Poolside Paradise!
Alright, let's get to the food! The Breakfast [buffet]…was a buffet. Good, solid, classic buffet. They had options like Asian breakfast, Western breakfast. It was an international buffet. It was fine. I am not a buffet person, but everyone else seemed happy. You can also get Breakfast in room; I’m all about options here, people! They do Breakfast takeaway service.
But the real star? The Poolside bar. Seriously, this place is paradise, not gonna lie. Poolside bar, serving delicious cocktails, and the occasional burger. The fact they have a Happy hour makes it even better. The Coffee/tea in restaurant was average… but that burger? Life-changing. They have Bottled water everywhere, which is a nice touch. They have a Snack bar on hand. They have Room service [24-hour]. You can get a Salad in restaurant, Soup in restaurant, and Desserts in restaurant.
They also have a few different restaurants. They have Restaurants, Coffee shop, and a Vegetarian restaurant and Asian cuisine in restaurant.
Restaurants
- A la carte in restaurant is provided at each.
- Buffet in restaurant is also provided at several.
- The resort also has International cuisine in restaurant, and Western cuisine in restaurant.
- Alternative meal arrangement can be arranged.
- Safe dining setup is in place.
- Sanitized kitchen and tableware items are available.
Another great feature is that they offer Food delivery.
Services and Conveniences: The Little Things That Make a Difference (and the Frustrating Ones)
The Air conditioning in public area was a godsend during the humid Ocean City summer. The Concierge were incredibly helpful. The Daily housekeeping was efficient and friendly (thank you!). The Elevator was appreciated. The Dry cleaning and Laundry service were available. I didn’t need any of those, but it's nice to know they're there. Daily housekeeping were good and the beds were made everyday! Luggage storage was very helpful.
Now for the frustrating: the Car park [free of charge] is a definite plus. But the lack of a clearly marked check-in zone was a minor pain. The Contactless check-in/out was super easy. They Invoice provided, which is convenient. They didn't seem to have a Convenience store, which I missed.
Rooms! Finally! My Personal Sanctuary… mostly.
The rooms themselves? Pretty good. Air conditioning was a must in that humidity. The Blackout curtains were a lifesaver for sleeping in. Free bottled water was a nice touch (hydration, people!). Coffee/tea maker? Yes, please! The Desk was perfect for my laptop. Smoking area available. Ironing facilities and Ironing service. Safe dining setup is standard in the room.
They have a Mini bar, a Refrigerator, a Mirror, a Scale, and a Slippers.
Here's the thing: the rooms are not luxurious, but they are comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. I wouldn't call them Instagrammable, but they are functional.
Things To Do…Beyond the Beach (and a confession)
Okay, so, Ocean City is all about the beach, right? And yes, you can definitely spend a few days there. The Terrace provides a good view. But The Plim Plaza Hotel offers Kids facilities! The hotel is Family/child friendly and has Kids meal.
The Plim Plaza has a wonderful Fitness center as well as other facilities. The Meeting/banquet facilities make the Plim Plaza a perfect getaway for any occasion. You can also spend your time relaxing through Massage, and Spa services.
The "Best Kept Secret" Confession:
Here's the truth. The Plim Plaza isn't perfect. But it gave me the beach vacation I needed. It's not so flashy, but it's comfortable, well-located, and offers everything you could ask for.
My Overall Verdict:
If you want a slightly-off, comfortable, and relaxing Ocean City getaway, the Plim Plaza Hotel is worth checking out. It’s not flawless, but it's charming, has a whole lot of character, and you might just find, like I did, that you’ll be back.
Quirks and Imperfections:
- You might have to hunt down a massage.
- The Wi-Fi hiccups occasionally, but is generally fine.
- The lobby is, well, a little…dated.
Overall, it's a win. I'd go back. And that's a very, very high compliment.

Okay, buckle up, buttercups. This ain't your grandma's perfectly polished travel itinerary. We're going to Ocean City, MD, and we're doing it right. By right, I mean… organically. Think less precision, more…adventure! And a whole lot of ice cream. Because, Ocean City.
Here's the REAL deal - Plim Plaza Hotel & Ocean City Odyssey (with a healthy dose of chaos):
Day 1: Arrival of the Slightly Over-Prepared (and Slightly Delusional)
- 10:00 AM: Depart from… well, wherever you're coming from. My departure was supposed to be a smooth sailing from the Baltimore. Emphasis on supposed. Instead of a straight shot, I had to dodge a rogue flock of geese and deal with traffic so thick I swear I saw a guy trying to sell hotdogs with a look that suggested he'd been stuck in it for three days. (Honest to god, MD traffic is a character in itself).
- 1:30 PM: FINALLY arrive at the Plim Plaza. Oh. My. God. The ocean wind, that smell of salt, the distant screams of seagulls – pure, unadulterated bliss. Okay, so the lobby is maybe a little dated. Let's call it "retro charm."
- 1:45 PM: Check-in. Successfully negotiated the front desk (always feels like a small victory). "Do you have any rooms overlooking the ocean?" I bat my eyelashes. "We have one, but it's on the top floor. Lots of stairs." Stairs? Ugh. But the ocean view? Worth it.
- 2:30 PM: Unpack. Or, try to. My suitcase is a black hole of "essentials" and "maybe I'll need this." I spent a good twenty minutes just staring at my collection of various sundresses wondering if I should just hang all of them. I'm sure my roommate is thinking about the same thing.
- 3:30 PM: Ocean Orientation. First order of business: The Boardwalk. This is where it all begins. The smells are amazing, and the lights of all the amusements are almost hypnotic. I got a little lost, which is a recurring theme, but eventually found the spot where everyone gets their picture taken.
- 4:00 PM: Food! Gotta carb up for the long walk. I found a place that makes the best boardwalk fries – crispy, salty, perfect. Actually, I kinda inhaled them. Followed it up with a soft serve cone. This is the life.
- 5:00 PM: The "I'm going to try to be an adult" part: A quick walk on the beach. The sand is still warm, the water's a beautiful color. For the first time in months, I just…breathed. Damn, I needed this.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner at Fish Tales. Okay, so the place is kind of loud, and the service is… well, let's call it Ocean City Casual. But the seafood? Incredible. I got the crab cakes, and they were glorious. I swear, I could taste the sea.
- 8:00 PM: Boardwalk Amusements. Gotta hit the arcade! I'm terrible at all of the games, but it's pure, unadulterated fun. And the cheesy prizes! I won a stuffed panda, which is now my new travel buddy.
- 9:30 PM: Walk. Think. Enjoy. Watch the world.
- 10:00 PM: Back to the room. Collapse. The ocean has a calming effect.
Day 2: The Roller Coaster of Emotions (And Actual Roller Coasters)
- 8:00 AM: Attempt at a healthy breakfast. I brought granola. Ate half of it. Now I have a feeling I need a coffee. Well, maybe the beach.
- 9:00 AM: Beach time! Sunscreened to within an inch of my life. I could feel the gentle sea breeze and the warm sun on my skin. I buried my toes in the sand, and finally relaxed. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The sea, the sky, the emptiness.
- 11:00 AM: I'm actually going to do a deep dive into a single experience. The Roller Coasters. I usually hate roller coasters. In fact, most of the time I'm just sitting, arms crossed and eyes full of rage. But this time, my travel partner dragged me up to the front, and the adrenaline rushed into me. The first climb, the anticipation. The drop - the fear, the excitement. The looping. The screaming. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. I went on every single roller coaster at Jolly Rogers. And you know what? I loved it. The wind in my hair, the pure, unadulterated thrill. I'm still buzzing. I think. And you know what else? I went back for a second round. And a third.
- 1:00 PM: Post-coaster recovery. I’m eating a burger. And drinking a milkshake. I think I deserve it.
- 2:30 PM: Exploration! I wandered into some of the various shops. And this is where I learned that nothing is really going to happen on the trip. If you’re looking for a souvenir, you're in the wrong place.
- 4:00 PM: Quick swim in the hotel pool. The Plim Plaza pool is decent. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.
- 5:30 PM: Prep for dinner. Shower. Dress into something that wasn't covered in boardwalk grease.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner at a place called "The Hobbit." It's a cozy, quirky place. The food is good. I think I'll order extra desert next time.
- 9:00 PM: Strolling on the beach. I watched the stars. The sky was clear.
- 10:00 PM: Back to the room. Lights out. I think I'm happy to be here.
Day 3: The Slow Fade (And the Search for the Perfect Souvenir)
- 9:00 AM: Sleep in! I wake up. The ocean is still there. I sip coffee on my balcony.
- 10:00 AM: Last Beach Walk. The sun is out. The sand is warm. I am dragging myself slightly out of bed.
- 11:00 AM: The Great Souvenir Hunt. I need something to remember this trip by. Walked through nearly every shop on the boardwalk. I found nothing. Or, nothing I liked.
- 12:00 PM: Another Ice Cream.
- 1:00 PM: Lunch. Then one last walk along the boardwalk.
- 2:00 PM: Pack. The actual nightmare.
- 3:00 PM: Check out. One last look at the ocean. I think I'm getting emotional.
- 4:00 PM: The long drive home. The beach is in the rearview mirror. I turn on my playlist and close my eyes. Time to make some memories.
Final Thoughts:
Ocean City is a beautiful, slightly messy, glorious place. It's not fancy. It's not always perfect. But it's real. And sometimes, that's exactly what you need. This isn't a perfect itinerary. It's a collection of moments, good and bad, that make up a trip. And honestly? I wouldn't trade it for the world. Now, bring on the next adventure!
